On Thursday 6th August, Montessori Academy celebrated the Grand Opening of its 21st childcare centre at the historic landmark, The Abbey, in Glebe.

The event was attended by more than 300 members of the local community, including special guests, the Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore, Deputy Lord Mayor Robyn Kemmis, and Monsignor Brian Rayner.

General Manager for Centre Operations, Meray Parsons, welcomed everyone to the event and shared how the value of education forms the foundations for every new Montessori Academy childcare centre.

“At Montessori Academy the value of education is at the heart of everything we do. From the design and construction of our centres, through to the way we prepare our classrooms, to how rigorously we train our educators. Excellence in education is always at the core of our foundations.

“Glebe Montessori Academy is no exception. To quote our founder, Doctor Maria Montessori: ‘Plainly, the environment must be a living one, directed by a higher intelligence, arranged by an adult who is prepared for his mission.’ I believe that is exactly what we have here today,” she said.

The Grand Opening provided guests with the opportunity to take a first look at the new childcare centre, meet the Montessori Academy Team, and attend Montessori Workshops for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, congratulated Montessori Academy on the restoration of The Abbey, and for transforming it into a facility for early childhood education, which will go on to benefit the Glebe community in the best way possible.

Together with the Deputy Lord Mayor Robyn Kemmis, Monsignor Brian Rayner, and Director of Montessori Academy Colette Assaf, the Lord Mayor officially declared the centre open by cutting the ceremonial ribbon and cake.

Director of Montessori Academy, Colette Assaf, said: “The opening of our Glebe centre is a great achievement for our company, our people, and for our community of families that have made this growth possible.

“I want to sincerely thank all of our families, as it is your faith in our reputation, as a provider of excellence in education that has allowed and inspired us to become Australia’s largest and fastest growing Montessori childcare group.

“Thank you for trusting us with the education and development of your children,” said Colette.

Glebe Montessori Academy is expected to open to the public in mid-August, pending Service Approval by the Department of Education.

The centre will be open from 7:30am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday and is currently taking expressions of interest for children aged six weeks to six years.
