Introduction to Montessori Education
Montessori Academy delivers a Montessori Early Education and Preschool Program for children aged 0 – 6 years in a long day care format. Our mission is: “Preparing children for school and life.”
Through our prepared learning environments, Montessori Materials, and teaching philosophy, we facilitate hands-on learning experiences designed to support each child’s unique developmental needs and interests.
Our approach to education is grounded in the belief that children have a natural desire to learn, and that each child’s distinct personality and learning style should guide their learning process.
Through our individualised learning programs, we empower our students the knowledge, tools and skills to ignite their own inner teacher and a love of learning.
The Montessori Education Program
The Montessori Education Program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative exploration.
In the Montessori classroom, children have freedom to direct their learning, and work with a selection of Montessori materials that have been carefully curated for each age group based on years of scientific observation about how children learn.
Each Montessori Education Program builds on the one before it, providing challenges that are appropriate to both age and skill level.
As children progress through the Montessori Program, they develop intense concentration, strong academic foundations, intrinsic motivation, social skills, care for the environment, and respect for others.
The Montessori Curriculum
The Montessori Curriculum is a child-centred learning framework that covers five key learning areas, including: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Culture.
The cornerstone of the Montessori Curriculum is the Montessori materials, which are hands-on learning tools designed to provide children with opportunities to discover learning through repetition and practice.
The Montessori materials guide children through the Montessori Curriculum and increase in complexity as student’s progress through the Montessori Education Program.
This clear sequence provides children with a logical pathway to learning that promotes the gradual layering of knowledge to establish foundational learning.
How is Montessori Different?
The Montessori Philosophy embraces the view that the goal of education should be to active each child’s own natural desire to learn.
This is why the purpose of Montessori Education is to provide children with the environment, tools, and guidance they need to thrive in the formative years of their early education.
These solid foundations launch Montessori students into the future as capable and confident learners who will go on to achieve their full potential. This is how Montessori Education prepares children, not only for school, but for life.
