Our Burwood child care centre offers three prepared classroom environments that are specifically designed to cater to the unique developmental needs and interests of infants, toddlers and preschool students. Each classroom offers a full suite of Montessori materials that have been carefully selected to provide children with hands-on learning experiences focused on practical life skills, sensorial education, mathematics, language and culture.
What’s unique about the Montessori Materials offered at Burwood Montessori Academy, is that each material is designed with a control of error, which leads children towards understanding through repetition and practice. As we say at Burwood Montessori Academy, practice makes permanent. Montessori Materials increase in difficulty as children progress through the Montessori Education Program. In this way, learning is child-centred, and tailored to the developmental needs and interests of each individual student.
In addition to our unique classroom environments, our Burwood child care centre offers a vibrant outdoor play area, beautifully diverse cultural community, extracurricular activities, full events calendar, and fantastic play-based educational experiences guided by the Australian Government’s Early Years Learning Framework.
The centre itself is situated next to the picturesque Burwood Park, which creates an expansive sense of outdoor space, and connectedness to nature. The seamless integration of engaging classrooms, and natural outdoor play spaces, offers children the ideal place to cultivate a life-long love of learning as a positive foundation for school and life success. Montessori Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework
The Montessori Curriculum covers five key learning areas, including: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Culture. In addition to these key learning areas, Montessori Academy also cover the Australian Government’s Early Years Learning Framework, Health and Wellbeing, Science, Geography, School Readiness, and the Arts. In this way, Montessori Academy delivers a holistic education program that is tailored to the unique developmental needs and interests of each individual child.
The Montessori Difference
Families that are new to Montessori Academy often ask how Montessori early education is different to play based child care. The answer lies in the way learning experiences are conducted, which is shaped by the Montessori Philosophy, teaching principles and practices, educator mindset, and the structure and materials within the prepared environment.
The Montessori Philosophy is focused on empowering children with the knowledge and tools to achieve their full potential. Education is largely self-paced, interest-based, and designed to amplify children’s natural desire to learn through process focused educational experiences.
From an educational perspective, the role of the Montessori Educator is to observe, guide, facilitate and respond to children’s interests. Educator’s encourage children’s independence, and facilitate learning using the Montessori materials in the prepared environment.
The Benefits of Montessori Education
The Montessori Method has been widely recognised as the leading format for education worldwide. It helps children to learn more effectively than conventional approaches because it is child-centred, self-paced, embraces each child’s unique interests and strengths, values individuality, and empowers students with the knowledge and skills to achieve their full potential through hands-on learning experiences.
Beginning at an early age, Montessori Education assists children in developing a sense of order, social skills, coordination, communication skills, emotional intelligence, concentration and independence. As students progress through the Montessori Education Program, they begin to self-correct, look critically at their work, and establish a love of learning as a foundation for school and life.
